In 2022, the DEA seized more than 59.6 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and more than 13,300 pounds of fentanyl powder. 7 out of every 10 pills seized contain a lethal dose of fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. A lethal dose of heroin is 100 mg, but a lethal dose of fentanyl is 2 mg, with doses as small as 0.25 mg, equivalent to a single grain of sand. The biggest risk factor is that people are often exposed unintentionally.
